What Is the Japanese System of Reiki?

Mikao Usui Shrine, Japan

The System of Reiki is a Japanese healing art and meditative philosophy that promotes self-healing, self-awareness and spiritual growth. In the Japanese system of Reiki, hands-on treatments are -not- the focus, but only one portion.

Introduced in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 1900's, the system of Reiki is a simple, natural, safe method of healing and self-improvement, affecting the whole person (including body, mind and spirit) creating beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and well-being.

This is achieved through The 5 Elements of Reiki:

  1. The Gokai (Reiki Precepts)

  2. Reiki Meditations & Techniques (including Kokyu Ho)

  3. Tenohira (Hands-on Healings)

  4. Jumon & Shirushi (Reiki Symbols & Mantras)

  5. Reiju (Reiki Initiations)

It is believed that blockages in the flow of vital energy will eventually result in mental, emotional, and/or physical illness. By removing such blockages and maximizing energy flow, it will enable the body, mind, and spirit to function optimally. Practicing the internal and external dynamics of Reiki in a balanced way will set you on your path of growth and personal enlightenment.

Reiki Benefits:  Deep relaxation, assists the body’s natural ability to heal, immune system support, adjusts the body’s natural energy flow, raises the vibrational frequency of the body, spiritual growth and emotional healing.
